Weave vs Podium: which fits your practice?

Weave and Podium get compared a lot by dental, medical and aesthetic practices because both put texting, reviews, payments and now AI on one screen. They come from different places, though. Weave started as a phone system for healthcare offices. Podium started with reviews and texting for local businesses, and its practice product now leans hard into aesthetics.

We don't sell either one, and neither company asked us to write this. Trilix AI builds custom phone agents and back-office systems for clinics and other operators, so we get asked about both. We describe our route at the end, with that disclosure up front. Every claim below links to the vendor's own page.

What does Weave do?

Weave is a patient communication platform with its own VoIP phones. Every plan covers appointment reminders, confirmations, two-way texting, missed call texting, online scheduling, digital forms, reviews, payments and call analytics. Higher tiers add more bulk texting (1,500, 3,000 or 15,000 messages a month), more phones and premium analytics. Dental practices also get practice analytics and insurance verification (Weave pricing).

Its AI Receptionist page describes answering calls and texts 24/7, booking and rescheduling into the Weave calendar, and handing off to staff with a conversation summary. When we checked, the page showed both "early access now available" and a waitlist, so ask Weave whether it's live for your practice type.

Weave pricing: "starting from $199 per month." The Pro, Elite and Ultimate plan prices sit behind a "Get Pricing" form (Weave pricing).

What does Podium do?

Podium is a messaging and reviews platform that now sells AI employees on top. Its pricing page lists reviews, phones, website chat, a shared inbox, payments and text marketing, with more than 200 integrations, and says you can "add on AI Employee to any plan" (Podium pricing).

For aesthetics, Podium sells a fuller system: an AI employee called Avery that answers leads across phone, text and social and books appointments with rooms and devices in mind, an AI-powered EMR for charting, scheduling and payments, and an AI business manager called Operator (Podium aesthetics). Its dental page focuses on reviews, texting and payments (Podium dental).

Podium pricing: not published. You get a quote after a demo, and the AI employee is an add-on (Podium pricing).

Which one should you pick?

  • Dental, optometry or veterinary practice that wants one vendor for phones and patient texting: Weave. It's built around the front desk of those offices and publishes a starting price.
  • Dental office that mainly wants more Google reviews: either works. Compare Weave's review tools with Podium's on a demo.
  • Med spa, dermatology or plastic surgery practice: look hard at Podium's aesthetics product, especially if you also need an EMR.
  • You want a published starting price before a sales call: Weave lists one; Podium doesn't.
  • You want AI answering calls today: confirm availability with both. Weave's AI Receptionist page showed a waitlist when we checked, and Podium's AI employee is an add-on.

Where both fall short for some practices

Both are packaged platforms. They work best when your practice runs the way the product expects. Two situations come up often:

  • Multi-location groups with different rules per office. Ask each vendor how it handles different hours, providers, services and transfer rules at each location, and whether reporting rolls up across them.
  • Work outside communication. Neither is built to automate back-office jobs like reconciling payments into your accounting, chasing unscheduled treatment from your own reports, or building owner dashboards across offices.

What about a custom build?

Disclosure: this part is us. Trilix AI builds custom phone agents and back-office automation for clinics, connected to the practice software you already run where it allows a connection. Our AI for clinics page explains what we build, with clinical questions left to clinicians. We've also built a dental practice demo on sample data covering lead replies, no-show refills, treatment plan follow-up and recalls.

That route makes sense for groups that want one team for phones, follow-up and reporting. For a single office happy with how Weave or Podium works, a packaged platform is usually the better buy. Our separate, disclosed page compares Trilix and Podium directly, and our AI receptionist guide covers published plans across vendors.

What to ask both vendors

  • What's the all-in monthly price for my number of locations, phones and texts?
  • Is the AI receptionist live today for my specialty, and what does it cost on top?
  • Does it book confirmed appointments into my practice software, or send requests to staff?
  • How are HIPAA and call recording consent handled, and will you sign a BAA?
  • What's the contract length and cancellation notice?
  • Can I export my texts, recordings and reviews if I leave?

How much does Weave cost?

Weave says plans start from $199 a month. Exact Pro, Elite and Ultimate prices are quoted through its pricing form (Weave pricing).

How much does Podium cost?

Podium doesn't publish prices. You get a quote after a demo, and the AI employee is an add-on (Podium pricing).

Does Weave have an AI receptionist?

Weave has an AI Receptionist page describing 24/7 call and text answering and booking. When we checked, it showed early access and a waitlist, so confirm availability with Weave.

Is Podium good for med spas?

Podium's aesthetics product is built for med spas and similar practices, with an AI employee, an AI-powered EMR and an AI business manager. Ask for references from practices your size.

Do I need either if I already have a phone system?

Not always. If your phones work and you mainly miss after-hours calls, an AI phone agent on your current lines may be enough. Our missed call calculator helps size the problem.
